PENGUIN 1.1 ROLLED OUT

For past few weeks, it had been speculated that the Penguin refresh is out. But it was only on Friday evening Matt Cutts put this rumour to rest. Google rolled out its first version of the famous Penguin Updates – since its inception many low-quality sites having spunned/spammy content have been hit; specifically, those sites that violated Google’s quality guidelines. This newest addition to the previous update is called Penguin 1.1 .

Matt Cutts announced this update on Twitter and also stated that this update will affect less than 0.1% of English searches.

When the Penguin Updates was launched, it created a stir in the SEO world as it almost affected 3.1% of the search results. Many sites with low-quality and automated content were hit. Many innocent sites were also hit by “mistake”. To make up for this Google introduced a form for the webmasters whose sites were hit (by mistake) by the Penguin Updates. Almost a month in, that form is still online.

As of now Google is tacit on Penguin 1.1, which may indicate that it might be possible that this update is not really too big to create waves in the webspace . We’ll probably have to wait until the next update on algorithm changes to find out more.
