Created as a social platform for sending catchy missives akin to text-driven interaction, Twitter now boasts close to 100 million users around the world, according to its figures, and half of them being active daily, as claimed by the company.
Facebook has around 800 million users. According to the observations of Pew Internet Center, only 13 percent of among all adults who are online in Americans actually use Twitter, whereas over 50 percent make use of Facebook. Most Twitter users in the US are under 35, while the former has a greater share of older users.
To narrow down the gap, Twitter’s new design intends to draw fresh users, and keep them on the network longer, to ultimately attract more advertisers.
- Two major changes form crux of the new look and feel. Main pages of the service now look to help its users grasp how the site works, focusing largely on the # and @ shorthand symbols.
- With the new design, a user could check the Discover page to get currently the most popular topics in his community or worldwide. The new site has three icons right at the top of the page – a birdhouse icon; an ‘@ Connect’ icon; and a “# Discover” icon.
- Twitter can now also offer what it terms to be relevant infotainment for a given user, not merely the stream of updates from brands and other people that one then chooses to follow.
The platform should be usable by all those who well know the shortcuts and also as usable by those who don’t know it, according to one of the co-founders, Jack Dorsey.Giving an insight into the new version, an official post states that now users can easily discover what’s happening. As part of this new release, Twitter has introduced enhanced profile pages to help marketers build more dynamic and compelling touch points for their brands. It adds:
“Communicating with users isn’t just about what you say. It’s also about how you say it. Now, your profile page does more to help you make an impression with a large header image for displaying your logo, tagline, and any other visuals. You can also control the message visitors see when they first come to your profile page by promoting a Tweet to the top of your page’s timeline. This Tweet helps you highlight your most engaging and important content and better connect with your target audience. The Promoted Tweet on your profile page will appear auto-expanded so that visitors to your page can instantly see the photo or video content that you link to from your Tweet.”
The retooling, explain company officials, will it much to grasp, more accessible and faster. It started making the changes in its apps for both Android and Apple phones, apart from a limited number of its Web users.
